Freddy Galvis has snapped out of a prolonged slump with a vengeance.
The shortstop was 3-for-4 Monday night and fell a home run shy of the third cycle in Padres history. He had his fourth double and second triple and scored two runs in his first three-hit game of the season.
Over the last two days, Galvis has gone 5-for-6 with two doubles, a triple, a RBI and three runs scored.
Before the breakout, Galvis had only 13 hits in 89 at-bats (.146) with one double, four RBIs and five runs scored -- dropping his batting average from .316 to .212. The past two days has raised his average back to .237.
Galvis has started all 43 of the Padres' games this season and leads the Major Leagues with 387 1/3 games played. Galvis and teammate Jose Pirela are the only players in the Major Leagues who have started all 43 games.
NOTEBOOK
: • Monday's game marked the first time in Padres history that all three outfielders -- Franchy Cordero in left, Manuel Margot in center and Franmil Reyes in right -- were born in the Dominican Republic. Cordero and Reyes were signed on the same day (Nov. 1, 2011) by Randy Smith.
• The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Reyes was 0-for-4 Monday night with two strikeouts in his Major League debut. The 22-year-old was not claimed last December when left unprotected in the Rule 5 draft. He was hitting .346 for Triple-A El Paso and led all Minor League players with 14 homers when he was promoted Monday.
• Christian Villanueva's four-inning single Monday snapped an 0-for-37 streak that was the longest in Padres' history by a position player. The skid dropped Villanueva's batting average from .325 to .224.
• Three of rookie Joey Lucchesi's first nine Major League starts have come against the Colorado Rockies. He is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA against Colorado after giving up three runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts in five innings Monday night. He did not figure in the decision. Lucchesi was placed on the 10-day disabled list this morning with a right hip strain and INF Carlos Asuaje was recalled from Triple-A El Paso.
