Posey day to day with finger contusion

X-rays negative after Giants catcher exits Tuesday's game

September 6th, 2017

DENVER -- Giants catcher left Tuesday night's 9-6 loss to the Rockies in the bottom of the eighth inning when a foul tip bruised the ring finger on his right hand.
X-rays, which Posey underwent immediately after he left the game, revealed no fracture. He is day to day.
About a half-hour following the game's conclusion, Posey noted that the swelling in his hand had somewhat subsided. Nevertheless, he called it "probably the hardest foul tip to the hand I think I've had, I would say. I've been pretty lucky."
Posey's latest injury occurred when Colorado's DJ LeMahieu hit a foul tip that struck his bare hand. Posey leaped from his crouch, shaking his hand in obvious pain as he ran toward the pitcher's mound.
The five-time All-Star missed three games last week with a bone bruise and inflammation around his left thumb, which he sustained in an Aug. 23 game against Milwaukee. He's batting .318/.404/.466 with 12 home runs and 59 RBIs.
Tim Federowicz, who joined the team this week from Triple-A Sacramento, replaced Posey. Nick Hundley, San Francisco's primary backup catcher, flied out to deep center field as a pinch-hitter in the ninth.
