Bumgarner's simulated game set for Sunday

June 16th, 2017

DENVER -- The Giants settled on Sunday as the date for 's simulated game, the next step in his recovery from injuries sustained in a dirt-bike accident near here on April 20.
Bumgarner's outing had been expected to occur Friday or Saturday, but gaining access to the Coors Field diamond proved to be a mild issue, Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated.
Bumgarner, San Francisco's Opening Day starter and a four-time All-Star, likely will throw the equivalent of two or three innings to a handful of Giants hitters.
Bochy said after Sunday's exercise, Bumgarner likely will report to the club's training facility at Scottsdale, Ariz., where he can continue to rehabilitate, throw and perhaps face more hitters -- Minor Leaguers who are in extended spring camp.
Bumgarner is still expected to need at least five Minor League injury rehab starts before he rejoins the Giants rotation, most likely after the mid-July All-Star break.
