SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants reliever Sergio Romo was expected to begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Monday and could rejoin the team in Atlanta for next week's four-game series against the Braves barring any setbacks, manager Bruce Bochy said Monday.
Romo, who has been out since April 10 with a strained elbow flexor tendon in his throwing arm, was expected to pitch one inning on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and if all goes well, will pitch in back-to-back games on Sunday and Monday, May 30 before being reactivated.
Bochy anticipated that with Romo's impending return, the Giants' relievers will move back to roles similar to the start of the season. Romo is expected to return to the eighth inning as the setup man for Santiago Casilla, allowing the coaching staff to be more flexible with their use of right-handers Cory Gearrin and Hunter Strickland.
"It's going to make us a stronger bullpen," Bochy said. 
Romo had a 2.70 ERA in four appearances with one strikeout and one walk before his injury.
