Yanks to rotate Torres around infield in Minors

Increased versatility could accelerate top prospect's journey to Major Leagues

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Yankees plan to have rotate at three different infield positions this season, working on skills which could accelerate the top prospect's timetable to the Major Leagues.
A natural shortstop, Torres will receive regular reps at second base and third base for Double-A Trenton, according to MLB.com correspondent Matt Kardos.
"I think he'll be just fine," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "As a shortstop today, you almost play two positions anyway a lot of times with shifts. We're adding third base, he's taking ground balls there. He took them for us in Spring Training over there.
"I don't anticipate it being a problem; I'm sure there's some growing pains with it, but I think he'll handle it fine."

Torres will be on an eight-day rotation at Trenton, playing three games at shortstop, two at third base and two at second base before an off-day.

The 20-year-old won the James P. Dawson Award as the most outstanding rookie in Yankees camp. In his first big league Spring Training, Torres hit .448/.469/.931 (13-for-29) with eight runs, six doubles, a triple, two homers and nine RBIs in 19 games.
Acquired from the Cubs in last summer's trade, Torres won the 2016 Arizona Fall League MVP Award after becoming the youngest player in league history to win the batting title.
There has been speculation that Torres could make his Major League debut by the end of this season, but he downplayed those expectations this spring.
"That's hard to say. I really don't know," Torres said through an interpreter. "It's not something that I pay attention to. I just want to enjoy the game and keep working hard."
