Goldy, community hero get Clemente honors

PHOENIX -- The D-backs commemorated Roberto Clemente Day prior to Saturday's game against the Giants with a pair of pregame ceremonies, honoring community activist and social worker Terri Cruz and first baseman .
Cruz, 88, threw out the first pitch and was recognized as the team's 2016 Roberto Clemente SEAT 21 honoree. Each of the 30 MLB clubs designated a seat in their ballpark for a local community hero in honor of Roberto Clemente Day, which was officially recognized for the 15th consecutive year Wednesday.
Goldschmidt is Arizona's nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, which recognizes the player who best represents baseball through community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions on and off the field.

Goldschmidt and his wife, Amy, support the Phoenix Children's Hospital, where they are registered volunteers and have also partnered with, along with the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, to launch Goldy's Fund for Kids in 2014.
