Greeneville pitching twirls shutout against Kingsport

June 11th, 2021

The Greeneville Flyboys manufactured a run in the bottom of the fifth inning that would prove to be the difference in a 1-0 shutout against the Kingsport Axmen on Thursday night at Pioneer Park.

Greeneville (4-3) put an end to Kingsport’s three-game winning streak and recorded its first win of the season when scoring less than 10 runs in a game. Four different Greeneville batters recorded a hit in the contest as Eddie Micheletti notched the lone extra-base hit with a triple in the second inning.

Connor Harris made his second start of the season for Greeneville and would strand a runner on base for the Axmen in each of the first two innings. The Axmen notched back-to-back base knocks against Harris in the fourth inning, but the Greeneville defense would shine as Homer Bush, Jr. made a diving catch in center field to take away a hit and doubled off a runner at second to end the inning.

Chris Williams kicked things off for the Flyboys with a single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Williams advanced to second on the play following a throwing error by the Kingsport shortstop and would later advance to third after a fly-out from Micheletti. Jake Dacunto provided the eventual game-winning hit with a single that allowed Williams to score and make it 1-0.

The Flyboys' bullpen shined the rest of the way as Austin Troesser and Cal Lambert combined to toss four scoreless innings for Greeneville to secure the victory. Troesser tallied three strikeouts and worked around a pair of walks, while Lambert worked around a pair of singles. Harris recorded his first victory of the season after scattering four hits to go along with four strikeouts through five innings for Greeneville.
