Heyward wins 5th NL Gold Glove Award

CHICAGO -- Cubs right fielder won his fifth Rawlings National League Gold Glove Award on Tuesday.
Heyward, who also won the award in 2012 and from '14-16, is the second outfielder in Cubs franchise history to win multiple Gold Gloves, joining two-time winner Andre Dawson (1987 and '88). Bob Dernier is the only other Cubs outfielder to win the award, doing so in '84.
Heyward won over NL finalists of the Dodgers and of the Marlins. Heyward's .991 fielding percentage was the fourth highest among NL right fielders. Puig was second at .996 and Stanton was sixth at .988.
Cubs first baseman and second baseman also were finalists for NL Gold Glove Awards at their positions, but did not win.

The D-backs' was named the winner at first base over Rizzo, who won his first Gold Glove last year as well as the Platinum Glove Award as the top defensive first baseman in the Majors. This past season, Rizzo posted a .998 fielding percentage, tops among NL first basemen. The Reds' Joey Votto also was a finalist at first base.
The Rockies' DJ LeMahieu won the Gold Glove at second base over Zobrist, who started 65 games there and had a .988 fielding percentage. The Marlins' Dee Gordon also was a finalist at second.

Fans can now vote for the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award winner presented by the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) in each League on Rawlings.com. Voting begins at 9 p.m. CT Tuesday and will end at 9 p.m. CT on Thursday. Fans can only select one player in each league among the 2017 Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners to take home the "Best of the Best" honor, to be unveiled at the 2017 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Ceremony on Friday.
