MIAMI -- The Marlins didn't necessarily find a replacement for Giancarlo Stanton, but the club on Wednesday night acquired a veteran who presents a right-handed-hitting threat in Jeff Francoeur from the Braves as part of a three-team trade that also included the Rangers.
Miami announced the deal shortly after a 3-0 win over Kansas City at Marlins Park. The Rangers sent Minor League shortstop Dylan Moore to the Braves, while Texas also received three international signing slots, one from Atlanta and two from Miami.
The Marlins, who also received cash considerations from the Braves, sent Minor League catcher Matt Foley to Atlanta.
"Once the injury to [Stanton] happened, we felt like we wanted to get a right-handed-hitting outfielder we felt could give us some offensive punch against left-handed pitching, and occasionally spell Ichiro [Suzuki]," Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said. "We were successful in acquiring Jeff Francoeur."

Stanton went on the disabled list on Aug. 14 with a Grade 3 left groin strain. The organization is hopeful the three-time All-Star right fielder can return, perhaps for the final week of the season.
In the meantime, Francoeur is a veteran who can split time in right field with Ichiro.
"We knew losing Giancarlo that we were going to have to score runs a different way," Hill said. "We've been hot and cold, thus far. We felt like bringing Francoeur over would be a nice spark and hopefully get our offense going."
Francoeur, 32, is in the midst of his 12th season in the big leagues. The outfielder signed a Minor League deal with the Braves in the offseason, returning to the franchise that selected him No. 23 overall in the 2002 Draft.
In 99 games (57 starts) with the Braves this season, Francoeur was hitting .249/.290/.381 with seven homers.
The Marlins have been targeting Francoeur for several days, and talks were underway with the Braves last weekend. Before Thursday's rubber game with the Royals, Miami will have to make a corresponding roster move, and it is expected that lefty reliever Hunter Cervenka will be optioned to Triple-A New Orleans.
"We're cognizant of what we bring into the clubhouse, and Jeff Francoeur, we've seen him from the other dugout," Hill said. "He's a tremendous teammate, and tremendous competitor, and he's been through a lot in his career. We felt like he would fit in nicely with our group."
