BALTIMORE -- Jenae Cherry and her husband, Orioles reliever Brad Brach, feel right at home here in Baltimore.
So it was no surprise that Cherry, a country music artist, incorporated Charm City in her latest single. She debuted the original Orioles-inspired song "Don't Miss the Magic" following the O's Friday night game against the Houston Astros.
"We threw in some Baltimore references in there, like it says, 'We won't stop, ain't the beer cold, BUCKle up,' things like that where Orioles fans will understand," Cherry said of her new single. "But it can be enjoyed by everyone."
And the song will do more than provide a catchy tune. It will also help support a greater cause. For every stream or download of "Don't Miss the Magic" -- which will be available for free Friday night -- the Orioles Charitable Foundation will donate $5 to Shannon's Fund. The promotion runs during the first week of availability (through Aug. 26).
Shannon's Fund is an endowment at the University of Maryland Medical Center that was established by the Orioles and OriolesREACH in 2008 in memory of former director of community outreach Shannon Obaker. Obaker bravely fought cancer for a year before she passed away in 2007 at the age of 29. Shannon's Fund provides financial support to hospital patients and their families to assist with many expenses associated with the treatment process.
Cherry, who recently performed at Camden Yards on July 22, formed the Jenae Cherry Band in 2011 and quickly became a country music staple in Nashville, Tenn. Her new EP, "Spinning," was released in late April and includes four original songs.
"[Baltimore is] where Brad's career really [took off], he feels at home here," Cherry said. "It's East Coast, and it's where he really found his success, because we both feel like we have family here, which is so helpful for everyone."
