Former GM Duquette offers Deadline insight

July 31st, 2018

Any front office looking to make a trade near the Trade Deadline needs to juggle an almost overwhelming array of variables: Team needs, farm system depth, salary considerations, injury concerns and much more. Jim Duquette dealt with all of those factors while pulling off numerous July moves as a member of the Mets and Orioles front offices.
On this week's episode of Executive Access, Duquette sits down with MLB.com's Mark Feinsand to explain why some negotiations succeed when others fail and to tell a few war stories from his own wheeling and dealing days -- including the tale of a proposed three-team swap that would have sent Roy Oswalt to Texas, Miguel Tejada to Houston and to Baltimore.

On Executive Access, MLB.com executive reporter Mark Feinsand provides a unique look at the people building Major League teams by engaging in candid interviews with front-office personnel from around MLB. Each week, you'll find out how they broke into the game, why they do what they do and how they envision the future of baseball. Look out for new episodes on Tuesdays.
