DETROIT -- Just when the Tigers crept a step closer to full health with the return of second baseman , they lost the other end of their double-play duo when shortstop bruised his right hand on a bizarre play in Friday night's 8-3 win over the Royals.
X-rays were negative, the Tigers announced, and Iglesias is considered day to day.
"No fracture," manager Brad Ausmus said. "Just a contusion."
Iglesias led off the sixth inning with a ground ball to third, fielded by . The throw to first went wide of as Iglesias ran down the line. The ball ended up closer to Iglesias than Hosmer, hitting Iglesias on his right hand as he neared the bag.
Iglesias felt it immediately and started shaking his hand as head athletic trainer Kevin Rand ran out to check on him. Iglesias stayed in the game and scored on 's bases-loaded walk, but took over at shortstop to begin the seventh inning.

Iglesias has taken on a heavy workload during the Tigers' stretch run, playing in 21 of the last 22 games. He played every inning in both games of Thursday's doubleheader sweep at Minnesota, helping to fill the void at the top of the lineup while Kinsler was out with concussion symptoms.
Iglesias, who went 1-for-3 on Friday, is batting .248 with four home runs and 30 RBIs in a career-high 129 games.
