Cleared by Rangers, Minors deal likely for Hamilton

December 23rd, 2016

ARLINGTON -- Free-agent outfielder has been cleared by the Rangers' medical staff and is expected to be signed to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training, Major League sources said Friday.
Hamilton underwent reconstructive surgery on his left knee last summer and was released by the Rangers in September. He was evaluated on Thursday in Arlington.
Hamilton will most likely get a chance to compete for a spot at designated hitter while getting some playing time in the outfield. The bulk of Hamilton's contract is still being paid by the Angels, as he is in the last year of a five-year, $125 million deal. The Rangers reacquired him on April 30, 2015.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram was the first to report he had been given medical clearance.
