Urias envious of Classic-bound teammates

PHOENIX -- Julio Urias, the Dodgers' 20-year-old wunderkind, hears veterans Adrian Gonzalez and Sergio Romo talk about how much fun they will have representing Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic, while he's left behind complying with the wishes of Dodgers management.

"I can't lie to you, I do feel a little sad to see them talk about it so much," said Urias, who pitched two hitless innings in a 7-3 win on Sunday against a Seattle split squad and was relieved by Romo, who struck out a pair in a scoreless inning of relief.

"I do feel I wish I could go as well. It's the decision of the team; I have to respect it, at least for the first round and then we'll see in the second round. I was ready for the first round. Now I have to wait for the decision of the team, but I wish Team Mexico the best."

And Urias also wishes the best for the Dodgers, especially if he's in the rotation. The Dodgers have told him they will ration his innings to protect his arm. After earlier hinting they might accomplish that by leaving him in extended spring training, Urias is starting every five games in Arizona, although club officials won't say whether Urias will open the season in the rotation behind Clayton Kershaw, Rich Hill and Kenta Maeda.

"It does feel good to be placed among the starters, it makes me confident but also motivates me to keep working to have a spot with the team," he said.
