MIAMI -- Before rejoining the Marlins, perhaps as early as Friday, Justin Bour will play some meaningful rehab assignment games. The power-hitting first baseman was in the lineup for Double-A Jacksonville's 2-0 loss to Pensacola in the Southern League playoff opener. He will be in the lineup again on Thursday
Bour went 1-for-3 with one walk and two strikeouts before being lifted for a pinch-runner in the ninth inning. He has been on the disabled list since July 25 with a right oblique strain, and sometime this weekend he could be back with the Marlins, who open a four-game series in Atlanta on Thursday.
The plan is for Bour to play nine innings on Wednesday and Thursday, the first two games of the Jumbo Shrimps' best-of-five series.
"He's going to play nine innings tonight, and I'm assuming nine innings [Thursday]," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "After that, we'll see where he's at."

Bour has already played three regular-season games for Jacksonville -- last Saturday through Monday -- going 3-for-9 (.333) with a home run.
The Marlins have missed the threat Bour presents in the middle of the lineup. Before his injury, he appeared in 87 games, posting a slash line of .289/.366/.548 with 21 home runs and 63 RBIs.
Tyler Moore, Tomas Telis, Derek Dietrich and J.T. Realmuto have spent time at first base with Bour on the DL.
Worth noting
• When the Marlins fought back from a slow first half to get to 66-63 on Aug. 27, the organization was hopeful the club would make a serious National League Wild Card push. It hasn't happened.
"We got back in it, and it just went away," Mattingly said. "That's been disappointing from the standpoint, we have a group of guys that we see as talented individuals that could put up good numbers and things like that. But we haven't seen this group kind of take charge and take over, and kind of smell it when you get into the situation where you can make some noise. And you don't, that gets disappointing."
• Third baseman Martin Prado, recovering from right knee surgery, went on the DL on July 18. The veteran infielder is moving closer to baseball activities, but if he returns this year, it will likely be late in the month, and mostly to get him some innings and peace of mind.
"I think it's more about getting him back on the field," Mattingly said. "You'd like for him to have a winter of basically just getting ready to play baseball next spring. Not a winter of, 'Am I healthy?'"
