Davis improving from illness, remains out

OAKLAND -- A's outfielder , sent home Tuesday night with a stomach ailment, remained out of the lineup for Wednesday afternoon's series finale against the Astros.
Oakland manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday morning Davis was at the Coliseum and "feeling a little better" but did not expect him to play.
Davis joined the 40-homer club Sunday in Texas and is just one shy of 100 RBIs. Frank Thomas was the last Athletic to drive in 100 runs, in 2006, when he totaled 114.
Worth noting
(forearm) is set to throw to hitters in a simulated setting at the Coliseum on Saturday. Barring any issues, he could then be in line to make one more appearance before the season ends.
• Right-hander is a candidate for Tommy John surgery, after an MRI revealed a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, Melvin said.
The A's reliever, who spent the balance of the season at Triple-A Nashville, will seek a second opinion before moving forward.
