CINCINNATI -- Kristopher Bryant tested his right ankle prior to Friday's 5-0 loss to the Reds by doing agility drills and taking both batting practice and grounders at third base. As far as Cubs manager Joe Maddon was concerned, Bryant was ready to at least pinch-hit. "I'm not 100 percent sure if he'll start tomorrow," Maddon said following the game. Bryant sprained his right ankle when he awkwardly stepped on the third-base bag on Wednesday night at Nationals Park. "It's just sore but not painful, so that's good," Bryant said on Friday. "I felt good running around." Bryant, who talked after doing some running in the outfield before batting practice, was encouraged. "The running was probably the biggest concern, and it felt pretty good," Bryant said. "That's a good sign for me. Hopefully I can get in there real soon." Bryant was hitting home runs during batting practice, which was a promising sign.
#Cubs Bryant just hit a HR in BP off the glass of the CF batter's eye. That's really good news
"I wasn't too worried," Bryant said. "The initial shock was, 'Oh, I sprained my ankle.' I wasn't too worried after the game or over the first night. Just comparing it to other ones I've had, I've had a lot worse ankle sprains." Is Bryant a quick healer? "Yeah -- hopefully," Bryant said. "I'm still young. You heal a little quicker when you're younger."
