O's well-represented on All-Star Ballot

April 24th, 2016

Major League Baseball released the ballot for the All-Star Game, presented by Mastercard, on Sunday afternoon and Baltimore was well represented. The O's starting nine, which includes early-season standouts Manny Machado, Mark Trumbo and Chris Davis, also has Rule 5 pick Joey Rickard.
Rickard -- a feel good story since Spring Trainiing -- entered Sunday batting .319 in 16 games and has secured the leadoff spot for the O's. He has one homer and four RBIs on the season, playing exceptional defense and giving Baltimore an element of speed.
Machado, coming off a career year shows no signs of slowing down and has a 16-game hitting streak and .397 batting average. Machado entered Sunday with six homers --tied for the team lead with Davis and 11 RBIs.
The rest of the Os on the ballot are multiple-time All-Star Adam Jones, Pedro Alvarez, Jonathan Schoop, Matt Wieters and J.J. Hardy.

The other side:Eric Hosmer was snubbed last year, despite Kansas City's strong following. Hosmer entered Sunday batting .299/.338/.433 and could earn a trip to the Midseason Classic.
Tip of the cap: Houston's left fielder Colby Ramsus has started strong, with six homers and 16 RBIs in his first 18 games.
A rising star: There's no question that Twins rookie Byron Buxton is fun to watch, for his speed and defense alone. It's been a slower start at the plate for Buxton, but -- with four extra-base hit and a pair of stolen bases already -- he's worth keeping an eye on.
