SEATTLE -- As a part of a league-wide Childhood Cancer Awareness Day, the Mariners partnered with the G1ve A Buck Fund to raise money for the Seattle Children's Hospital on Friday.
The proceeds go to the Seattle Children's Hospital's Strong Against Cancer initiative, an effort to cure childhood cancer through immunotherapy. Fans had an opportunity to buy tickets to a pregame event with the G1ve A Buck Fund, where they got refreshments and T-shirts in exchange for a donation.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and all Major League clubs are participating in raising awareness and research funds for childhood cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, of all diseases, cancer is the leading cause of death in children past infancy.
The Mariners joined Major League players, coaches, umpires and grounds-crew members across the country in wearing gold-ribbon decals and gold wristbands to show their support in finding a cure for childhood cancer.
