Mariners recall RHP Cody Martin from AAA Tacoma

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Cody Martin to the 25-man roster. Left-handed pitcher James Paxton has been placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to Aug. 8) with a left elbow contusion.

Left-handed pitcher James Paxton has been placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to Aug. 8) with a left elbow contusion.
 
Martin (#57) will be in uniform and available for tonight's (7:05 pm PT) game at the Los Angeles Angels.
 
Martin, 26, is 1-2 with a 2.70 ERA (3 ER, 10.0 IP) with 5 strikeouts in 5 relief appearances in two stints with Seattle this season. He was 9-7 with a 3.93 ERA (45 ER, 103.0 IP) with 99 strikeouts and 30 walks in 23 games (18 starts) with AAA Tacoma. Over his last 7 starts with Tacoma (6/25 - c), Martin is 4-2 with a 2.61 ERA (12 ER, 41.1 IP) with 39 strikeouts and 6 walks. Among Pacific Coast League leaders, Martin ranks T8th in strikeouts (99) and T11th in wins (9). Martin earned the win in his Mariners debut, tossing 1.0 scoreless inning while allowing 1 hit on June 2 at San Diego. Seattle originally claimed Martin off waivers from Oakland on Oct. 29, 2015.
 
Paxton, 27, was removed from his last start, August 7 vs. Los Angeles - AL, after being struck near his left elbow by a line drive in the top of the 9th inning. Paxton is 4-5 with a 3.53 ERA (32 ER, 81.2 IP) with 73 strikeouts and 18 walks in 13 starts with Seattle this season. Since being recalled from AAA Tacoma on June 1, Paxton has posted 7 quality starts with the Mariners this season. Paxton has recorded 3 outings of at least 8.0 innings pitched and 2 or fewer runs allowed, including his last 2 consecutive starts. Over his last 7 starts (7/2 - c), Paxton is 3-2 with a 3.06 ERA (16 ER, 47.0 IP) with 32 strikeouts and 7 walks. Paxton was 4-3 with a 3.97 ERA (21 ER, 47.2 IP) with 50 strikeouts in 10 starts with AAA Tacoma this season. In parts of three Major League seasons with Seattle, he is 16-13 with a 3.28 ERA (90 ER, 246.2 IP) with 209 strikeouts in 43 starts. He was drafted by Seattle in the 4th round of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft after he completed his career at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
