MIAMI -- Thanksgiving is a week away, and the Marlins are already getting into the holiday spirit. On Friday, the organization will host its ninth annual Thanksgiving Distribution at Marlins Park.
At the private event, Marlins executives and employees will donate 1,000 turkeys to families in need. Participating for the first time will be Derek Jeter, the franchise's new chief executive officer.
The Thanksgiving meals will go to pre-selected families from the local neighborhood. Each family will receive a 10-pound turkey, fixings and desserts.
The distribution is a signature event by the Marlins Foundation, which is acting in partnership with Feeding South Florida.

The holiday season is a busy time for the Marlins Foundation, which hosted Give Miami Day on Thursday, benefiting nonprofit organizations.
Starting at midnight, the Marlins Foundation began promoting Give Miami Day, a 24-hour online donation event to raise money for over 500 South Florida nonprofit organizations. On behalf of the Home Run for the Homeless Board for the Miami Rescue Mission, team officials focused on raising money for the Men's Annex, where 78 homeless men are housed, fed and educated on a yearly basis.
