MIAMI -- The Marlins are in the market for starting pitching depth, and the organization is exploring possible trades. They're also in the process of grooming and evaluating their internal options.
Paul Clemens was called up from Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday, and the right-hander started in Monday's series finale with the Rockies at Marlins Park. There are other potential candidates in the Minor Leagues who could be under consideration as the season advances.
Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said on Monday that several Minor League candidates are progressing, with a few close to promotions to another level.
"We're starting to see more starting pitching depth throughout the organization," Hill said.
Right-hander Luis Castillo, who is 5-3 with a 2.15 ERA in 62 2/3 innings at Class A Advanced Jupiter, is close to getting brought up to Double-A Jacksonville.
Austin Brice, rated as Miami's No. 21 prospect by MLB Pipeline, is at Jacksonville but moving closer to being ready for the leap to Triple-A. The right-hander has a 2.92 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 74 innings. Brice is a possibility to join the Marlins in the second half of the season.
Chris Paddack (No. 17 prospect) and Jordan Holloway (No. 14) are impressing at Class A Greensboro.

Paddack, especially, is gaining plenty of attention.
Miami's eighth-round pick in 2015 is 2-0 with a 1.16 ERA and 39 strikeouts to just two walks in 23 1/3 innings.
Dillon Peters, at Jupiter, is having a strong season with the Hammerheads, going 5-4 with a 3.23 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 61 1/3 innings.
Resurging in the system is lefty Chris Reed, a first-round pick of the Dodgers in 2011. The 26-year-old made two appearances with the Marlins last year, pitching to a 4.50 ERA in four innings.
Reed's velocity is up, touching 94 mph at New Orleans.
Reed could emerge as a candidate to get a call for the Marlins at some point in the season.
Right-hander Jarred Cosart, meanwhile, is on the Minor League disabled list with an oblique strain.
Cosart opened the season in Miami's rotation but was optioned to New Orleans on April 26.
Cosart is at the Marlins' Roger Dean Stadium complex in Jupiter, Fla., where he is starting to throw off the mound.
"He's getting closer," Hill said. "Once he gets to Jupiter, the ground progression will begin."
