GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Matt Davidson broke out from a slow Cactus League start with three hits and three RBIs, including his first spring home run, as the White Sox cruised to a 4-2 victory over the D-backs on Thursday at Camelback Ranch.
Davidson started the spring with three hits in his first 20 at-bats, but his single off of Patrick Corbin scored Melky Cabrera in the first, and his single in the third brought home Peter Bourjos. He then homered in the fifth.
Davidson's output was in support of starter Lucas Giolito, who consistently worked behind in the count and gave up some hard contact, but allowed one run on three hits over four innings.

"The defense really worked well behind me and Kevan [Smith] did a really good job behind the plate," said Giolito, the club's No. 2 prospect per MLBPipeline.com. "I was spiking a ton of fastballs, and he got behind all of them and he didn't let anything get through.
"I was trying to work through things. It's one of those days you go out there, you don't really have your best stuff, but you compete and the defense is fantastic behind me, It's one of those days where you've got to give it up to the defense."
Corbin, who is among six pitchers fighting for an Arizona rotation spot, yielded three runs on six hits over 3 ⅓ innings with four strikeouts. J.J. Hoover, who is competing for a bullpen spot with the D-backs, notched a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning of scoreless relief.
Chris Owings launched his first home run of the spring leading off the second against Giolito, while Jake Lamb also hit a solo homer. Smith homered for the White Sox.

White Sox up next:Reynaldo Lopez makes his third Cactus League start on Friday against the Brewers in Maryvale, Ariz., having allowed six runs on seven hits over his first 4 ⅓ innings. Dan Jennings, Jace Fry, Michael Ynoa and Brian Clark are also scheduled to pitch in the 2:05 p.m. CT contest.
