NEW YORK -- Michael Fulmer extended his scoreless-innings streak with six more sharp frames and Ian Kinsler homered for the second consecutive game, leading the Tigers to a 4-1 victory over the Yankees on Sunday at Yankee Stadium.
Detroit took two of three games in the weekend series thanks in large part to Fulmer, who won his fifth straight start by blanking the Yankees on two hits in a 91-pitch gem, with three walks and three strikeouts. The right-hander has now worked 28 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings.
"I think he's becoming more confident," manager Brad Ausmus said. "Obviously, stuff plays into it, but he seems like he's on the right track, for sure."
"I'm just looking to go out and give my team a chance to win and put up zeros while I'm at it," Fulmer said. "Just let the defense play. I've got seven guys behind me that obviously do this for a living. They do it very well."
Michael Pineda took the loss despite striking out eight, allowing two runs over six innings. Nick Castellanos lifted a fourth-inning sacrifice fly and Victor Martinez had an RBI groundout in the fifth off Pineda. Kinsler slugged a two-run homer, his 13th, off Anthony Swarzak in the seventh inning.
"I thought [Pineda] threw a good game," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "It's the third one, and four out of five, that he's thrown well. He's getting on a roll. I liked what he did today. It's unfortunate we didn't score him any runs, but I thought he pitched well."

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Ian for the win: Kinsler delivered a key home run for the second game in a row. After smacking a three-run shot Saturday as part of a five-RBI performance, he deposited a two-run blast over the left-field seats in the seventh inning that gave Detroit a commanding 4-0 lead. Kinsler is riding a 16-for-49 (.327) hot streak and leads the Tigers with 42 RBIs.

Miggy making moves: Playing in his 2,000th Major League game, Miguel Cabrera snapped an 0-for-8 streak in the series with a first-inning double. It marked the 2,400th hit of his career, making him the fifth-youngest player to achieve the feat at 33 years, 55 days old.

Catch, K's keep it close: The Tigers had Pineda on the ropes in the fourth inning, but shortstop Didi Gregorius made a terrific diving catch to his left on Jarrod Saltalamacchia's hot liner, likely saving two runs. Pineda struck out Mike Aviles to end the inning. Pineda also was able to strand Cameron Maybin aboard in the fifth, registering two strikeouts and a run-scoring groundout.
"My slider, the last couple of starts, is good," Pineda said. "It's way better than the first couple of months. I'm a little more consistent with my slider, and my fastball location, too. It's good."
Nothing doing against Fulmer: The Yankees' best chance to push a run across was in the fifth inning, as Austin Romine led off with a ground-rule double. Fulmer recorded the next two outs but issued back-to-back walks to Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner, the latter of whom worked a 10-pitch at-bat. Fulmer recovered to get Carlos Beltran to fly out, leaving the bases loaded.

"He had good fastball life and the slider was good," Beltran said. "For me especially, I was having trouble picking up the spin on the slider. He got me chasing a couple of times."

This wasn't the first time Kinsler has homered in consecutive games; in fact, he's done it multiple times this year. He went deep four games in a row from May 15-18 against the Orioles and Twins and hit dingers in back-to-back contests against the Pirates on April 12-13. The Tigers are 9-4 when Kinsler homers.

Tigers: Detroit stays on the road to begin a three-game series against the White Sox, with left-hander Matt Boyd starting in the opener Monday at 8:10 p.m. ET. Boyd earned a no-decision in his last start, throwing 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball against Toronto.
