LAKELAND, Fla. -- Miguel Cabrera's three-run home run was the Tigers' lone hit through six innings, but it was enough to carry Detroit through a Grapefruit League pitching duel for a 3-0 victory over the Yankees on Friday at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Justin Verlander opened his spring by holding the Yankees to one hit -- a Brian McCann blooper to third base against the shift -- in two scoreless innings with a walk, a strikeout and a hit-by-pitch.
"Two scoreless innings and I'm ready to start getting into my regular starting routine," Verlander said.

New York starter Bryan Mitchell also shut down the Tigers in his two frames but battled command, hitting Ian Kinsler with a fastball and walking Cabrera his first time up.
Cabrera came back up in the third against former Cleveland nemesis Vinnie Pestano, who was trying to escape a self-inflicted third-inning jam after hitting Anthony Gose and walking Kinsler. Cabrera sent a 2-1 fastball over the fence in right-center field and into the bullpen for his first home run.
No other Tiger recorded a base hit until backup catcher Bryan Holaday, entering the game at third base, doubled with one out in the seventh.
Up next for Yankees: Center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is also scheduled to make his spring debut against his former club, the Red Sox, on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. ET. Right-hander Tyler Cloyd will make his first start and second spring appearance. On Wednesday against the Tigers, Cloyd went 1 1/3 innings and gave up a solo shot to Kinsler. Knuckleballer Steven Wright is scheduled to start for Boston.
Up next for Tigers:Jordan Zimmermann will make his Tigers debut Saturday against his old team, the Nationals, at his old training grounds at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Fla. J.D. Martinez, Jose Iglesias, Victor Martinez and Nick Castellanos are expected to be in the starting lineup for the 1:05 p.m. ET start. Stephen Strasburg is scheduled to start for Washington.
