DETROIT -- 's return to the Tigers' lineup could come during the club's upcoming homestand, according to manager Ron Gardenhire.
Before Sunday's series finale against the White Sox, Gardenhire said Cabrera needs to run four consecutive days before being activated from the 10-day disabled list. The 35-year-old slugger has been on the DL since May 4 with a right hamstring strain.
Cabrera ran on Friday and Saturday, but he only did agility drills on Sunday. Gardenhire said Cabrera has been up front with trainers about how he feels and that the plan is for him to work out again on Monday before the Tigers open a four-game series at Comerica Park against the Angels.
The 11-time All-Star isn't known for speed, but Gardenhire is focused on Cabrera's ability to run without discomfort since he injured his hamstring running on the basepaths.
Cabrera worked on fielding on Sunday, taking grounders at first base and occasionally showing some range to both sides, and also took batting practice. He also worked on making throws to second but did not run back to first to simulate a double play.
