MLB, MLBPA announce weekly COVID results

Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association jointly announced the latest COVID-19 testing results conducted under MLB’s COVID-19 Health Monitoring & Testing Plan on Friday. The independent Utah laboratory has reported the following results during the past week:

Weekly Monitoring Testing:

• 9,291 tests conducted, with 2 new positive tests (1 Major League player and 1 Triple-A player); a 0.02% positive rate.

Total Monitoring Testing To Date:

• 185,551 tests conducted, with 64 total positive tests (36 players and 28 staff members); a 0.03% positive rate. Twenty-five (25) different Clubs have had a Covered Individual test positive during Monitoring Testing.

In addition, MLB and the MLBPA announced today that 20 Clubs have reached the threshold of 85% or more of their Tier 1 Individuals being considered fully vaccinated, which (in consultation with medical experts) will allow for the relaxation of certain health and safety protocols for their Tier 1 Individuals. An additional two (2) Clubs have reached the threshold of 85% or more of their Tier 1 Individuals having received their final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and the relaxed protocols will apply to their Tier 1 Individuals within the next week once they are considered fully vaccinated. As of today, 85.2% of all Tier 1 Individuals are considered partially or fully vaccinated (i.e., have received at least one vaccine dose), and 82.9% of all Tier 1 Individuals are considered fully vaccinated.
