MIAMI -- Nationals left-hander Enny Romero appears to be headed to the disabled list after his left forearm tightened up during Wednesday night's 7-0 loss to the Marlins. Manager Dusty Baker called the issue a forearm strain for Romero, who hasn't dealt with arm issues in the past. The left-hander first felt the injury while facing Giancarlo Stanton in the sixth inning, which resulted in a strikeout.
After Romero retired Stanton, trainer Paul Lessard, Baker and pitching coach Mike Maddux came out to check on Romero, who threw one warmup pitch, but could not continue.
Baker said the Nationals would handle Romero with caution. And even though Baker said Romero "maybe" would land on the DL, he also named left-hander Sammy Solis, who was optioned earlier in the day Wednesday, as the corresponding move for Romero.
However, Romero said he would rest his arm during Thursday's off-day, and a decision to place him on the DL would depend on how he comes back Friday.
"I know they're going to be cautious with it, but it depends how I come back on Friday and how I feel," Romero said through an interpreter. "They'll make a decision."
But the Nationals are almost certain to miss one of their top left-handed relievers for some time. Romero has posted a 3.66 ERA this season, with 55 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings.
