Rumor roundup: Cespedes not only OF drawing interest

January 22nd, 2016

The Hot Stove headlines were dominated Thursday by the Nationals and their reported offer to Yoenis Cespedes, but he was not the only outfielder said to be drawing interest on the free-agent market.
Here's a look at the latest rumblings from Major League Baseball's rumor mill.
Jackson drawing interest
Austin Jackson is one of the top position players still available in free agency, and he appears to have several suitors.
The Angels, Brewers and Rangers have all checked in on the center fielder, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, who adds the Cubs could also be in the mix "for the right price."
Jackson, who will turn 29 on Feb. 1, hit .267 with nine home runs and 25 doubles in 136 games last year with the Mariners and Cubs. He owns a career .273 average over six seasons in the big leagues.
Rockies pursuing Gallardo
The Rockies were scheduled to talk Thursday with representatives for free-agent starter Yovani Gallardo, reports MLB.com's Thomas Harding.
Gallardo declined a qualifying offer from the Rangers, so the Rockies would have to surrender the 38th-overall pick in the 2016 Draft to sign the right-hander. Gallardo has also recently been linked to the Marlins and Blue Jays.
In 33 starts for the Rangers in 2015, Gallardo went 13-11 with a 3.42 ERA. He will turn 30 on Feb. 27.
D-backs looking to move second baseman?
The D-backs are in active trade talks to deal a second baseman, according to USA Today. The club has been linked to free agent Howie Kendrick, and a potential trade would open a spot for the veteran.
However, Kendrick is tied to Draft-pick compensation because he declined a qualifying offer from the Dodgers. The D-backs remain reluctant to forfeit a pick to sign Kendrick, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
The D-backs currently have a trio of second basemen on their 40-man roster in Chris Owings, Aaron Hill and Phil Gosselin.
Marlins looking at Lohse
The Marlins are in the market for another starting pitcher and have shown interest in veteran right-hander Kyle Lohse, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
Lohse, 37, is coming off a down season with the Brewers in which he went 5-13 with a 5.85 ERA in 37 outings (22 starts).
Multiple reports Wednesday linked the Marlins to a number of veteran starters, including Doug Fister, Alfredo Simon, Tim Lincecum and Cliff Lee.
