Nationals reinstate LHP Sammy Solis

The Washington Nationals returned from rehab assignment and reinstated left-handed pitcher Sammy Solis from the 10-day disabled list on Saturday and designated right-handed pitcher Jacob Turner for assignment. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Solis, 28, returns to the Nationals' bullpen after missing 65 games with left elbow inflammation. The left-handed reliever made seven appearances on rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse, allowing six earned runs off seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. He appeared in six Major League games this season before hitting the disabled list on April 19.

In 61 career Major League appearances, Solis has a 3.11 ERA and has struck out 9.05 batters per nine innings. In 2016, while appearing in a career-high 37 games (41.0 IP), Solis struck out 10.32 batters per nine innings and posted a 2.41 ERA.

Turner, 26, was 2-3 with a 5.08 ERA in 18 games -- 16 appearances out of the Nationals' bullpen and two starts. Seven of his 16 relief appearances were longer than 1.0 innings. He allowed two earned runs or fewer in 14 of his 16 relief outings.
