DENVER -- Jayson Werth set a Nationals record Tuesday night when he reached base for the 44th consecutive game in a 6-2 loss to the Rockies with a one-out single off right-hander Chad Bettis in the third inning.
Werth would eventually come around to score, showing how valuable he has been during this streak. He is batting .263 with a .384 on-base percentage in the 44 games.
Werth moved ahead of Ryan Zimmerman's 43-game streak set in 2009 and into a tie with Tim Raines (Expos) for the second most in franchise history. The franchise record is 46 consecutive games from Rusty Staub from 1969-70 with the Expos.
"Big congratulations to Jayson Werth, obviously it's been a run," left-hander Gio Gonzalez said. "That guy's unbelievable and deserves every bit of credit and tonight was about him."
