Yost gives KC kudos for Salvy pact

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Royals' decision to rework catcher Salvador Perez's contract on Tuesday naturally drew raves inside the team's clubhouse.
But perhaps no one was moved more than manager Ned Yost, who seized the moment to shower praise on an organization he terms the best in baseball.
Royals, Perez agree on 5-year contract extension
"They didn't have to do this with Salvy," Yost said. "But ever since [general manager] Dayton [Moore] has been here, this organization does it right. This organization takes care of people. And that's why you got guys that are free agents that come in and know they will have to compete for a job, but they want to be a part of this environment. They want to be in a locker room where they can feel like family. They want to be in an organization that cares about people.
"[The organization] not only makes them better [as players] but actually genuinely cares about people. Under Dayton's leadership, from the minute he has been here, that's the way the organization has been directed. Dayton wants an organization that you want your kids to play for. They do things right. It's a special, special place."

Yost said he hears that kind of praise from virtually every player who comes from another team.

"You can talk to players from other organizations who have never been through this," Yost said. "They've never been in an organization that actually cares about you. It's a special place to be. It makes it special to work with Dayton and this organization. It all starts with Mr. [David] Glass and Dayton, and that's what makes it special -- they do the right thing."
