Omar Infante, on whom the Royals requested unconditional release waivers on Tuesday, went unclaimed and became an unrestricted free agent on Thursday. He is free to sign with any team.
The 34-year-old infielder was designated for assignment a week ago Wednesday.
Infante signed with Kansas City as a free agent prior to the 2014 season, but slashed .238/.269/.328 in two-plus seasons with the Royals. The best stretch of Infante's career came from 2008-10 while he was with the Braves, when he slashed .309/.353/.411. Prior to signing with the Royals, he spent two seasons with the Tigers, the club that originally signed him in 1999.
