NEW YORK -- The Orioles continued their bullpen shuffle, reinstating left-handed pitcher T.J. McFarland from the 15-day disabled list and designating Logan Ondrusek for assignment off the 25-man roster prior to Friday's game against the Yankees.
McFarland was placed on the DL on June 30 (retroactive to June 29) with left knee inflammation, and he'll give the O's some length in the 'pen. The lefty said he was a little surprised with how long it took to get healthy but was grateful to have that injury behind him.
"I'm just glad I needed that time to get it right and get back here," McFarland said. "I don't feel anything at all. I feel stronger than ever."
In 15 games with the Orioles this season, McFarland has gone 2-2 with a 5.63 ERA, allowing 15 earned runs over 24 innings. He has pitched particularly well against New York.
Over 120 career Major League games (two starts), McFarland is 12-7 with a 4.10 ERA. He made five rehab appearances (four starts) for four Orioles affiliates.
"All sinkerball guys, it's on feel. I was out for a month, wasn't throwing -- which was good for the arm, but not the best thing for a sinker. You kind of lose that feel," McFarland said. "Those two [rehab] outings when I didn't look so well was because I didn't have my sinker. It's not a good thing to flatten out a sinker. It just took some time to get back on the mound, repetitions. I feel right right now and I feel exactly where I should be."
The 31-year-old Ondrusek pitched to a 9.95 ERA, allowing seven earned runs in 6 1/3 innings over seven games with the Orioles this season. The O's signed Ondrusek out of Japan and added him to the big league club in late July.
Manager Buck Showalter said the O's would like to get Ondrusek back to Double-A Bowie.
