"I had it explained to me what they do. He should be hopefully ready to go next spring. [It's a] four to six months recovery."
Pearce, acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in a Trade Deadline deal this season, was placed on the disabled list retroactive to Sept. 13. He hit .217 with three homers in 25 games for the Orioles. He'll be a free agent after the season.
Showalter said the Orioles got good news on starter Wade Miley, who exited Sunday's start early with back spasms. Miley reported to be "much better" on Monday.
"[He] went out and threw and feels pretty good," Showalter said. "So, we'll see where it fits in as we move forward."
