PHOENIX -- Padres catcher Derek Norris was sent for X-rays on his left elbow after being removed from Monday night's 8-4 victory over Arizona in the bottom of the eighth inning. Norris exited the game when he was struck in the left elbow by the backswing of Brandon Drury.
The Padres are optimistic that Norris' injury isn't serious, and that he won't miss any time. Manager Andy Green said X-rays were more precautionary than anything else.
"I think he's going to be fine," Green said. "I think he's going to need an X-ray just to check and make sure everything's good. It caught him right on the nerve that's on the funny bone and he just couldn't get feeling back. It just caught him wrong."

Following Drury's double, team trainers immediately tended to Norris, who appeared to be in some pain behind the plate. The extent of the injury is not yet known, and Norris was replaced by backup Christian Bethancourt.
Up to that point, Norris was the Padres' offensive star of the night, going 2-for-4 with the go-ahead homer in the sixth and an RBI double to spark a three-run eighth.
On the homer, Norris was given the green light on a 3-0 pitch, and he launched an Archie Bradley fastball into the left-field seats. Norris is now 5-for-6 with three homers when he swings away with a 3-0 count.
"I thought the situation called for [a green light], and I thought it was a great swing by him," said Green. "I was wondering if he even saw the sign, because he didn't look like he was looking or paying attention."
