Jay bruises right forearm on HBP; X-rays negative

Padres' Green says center fielder 'a little sore,' but doesn't expect DL stint

SAN DIEGO -- Padres center fielder Jon Jay suffered a right forearm bruise on a hit-by-pitch in the fourth inning of Sunday's 6-3 win against the Nationals at Petco Park.
Jay, who is batting .296 and has been one of the Padres' hottest hitters through June, stayed in the game initially after getting pegged with an 89-mph fastball from Nats lefty Gio Gonzalez.
However, before the top of the sixth, with San Diego leading, 5-3, Travis Jankowski replaced Jay in center field.
After the game, Padres manager Andy Green said X-rays on Jay's forearm came back negative and he expects the outfielder to avoid a trip to the disabled list.
"Just bruised right now, a little sore," Green said. "[We] got the day off [Monday], so we'll see how he rebounds in Baltimore.
"But no thought of putting him on the DL at this point. Just going to wait and see how he responds."
