Opener vs. Cubs postponed; twin bill Wed.

The rainout is the Padres' first this season and first since last July.

CHICAGO -- The Friendly Confines weren't so friendly to the Padres on Monday night, as their series opener against the Cubs was postponed by rain.
The two clubs will make up the game on Wednesday afternoon as part of a split doubleheader. Game 1 is slated for 10:05 a.m. PT; Game 2 will take place in the originally scheduled 5:05 p.m. timeslot.
Right-hander Cesar Vargas, who was slated to pitch on Monday, will get the ball on Tuesday instead. That pushes Colin Rea to Wednesday, when he'll pitch Game 1, followed by Drew Pomeranz in Game 2.
Without an off-day until Monday, the Padres still need another starter -- presumably for Saturday's game in Milwaukee. Relievers Carlos Villanueva and Brad Hand both have plenty of starting experience.
It's the Padres' first rainout of the season and first since last July 19, against the Rockies in San Diego.
