PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies shortstop J.P. Crawford took another step in his rehab process Friday, as he began fielding work and some light throwing as he recovers from a strained right forearm.

Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said Crawford "looked great" during the fielding drills. The 23-year-old infielder has also been hitting off a tee. Crawford, who sustained the injury while making a relay throw, has been on the disabled list since April 29.

It's unclear if Crawford will participate in a rehab assignment before he returns to the Phillies. Kapler said the team will evaluate Crawford's next step sometime this weekend.

"How can we get him ready to play from every perspective? From a strength and conditioning perspective, make sure he gets enough at-bats, make sure his arm is healthy enough and that he's had plenty of time to stretch himself out," Kapler said.

Crawford is hitting .188 with a .575 OPS in 21 games this season.

Kapler provided a handful of updates on other injured Phillies:

• Right-hander Jerad Eickhoff (strained right lat) will throw in another extended spring training game Monday, when he'll toss three innings or around 50 pitches in Clearwater, Fla.

• Right-hander Mark Leiter Jr. (strained right flexor pronator) will throw 2 1/3 innings in extended spring training on Saturday.

• Left-hander Adam Morgan (strained back) might throw a bullpen session Sunday. Kapler said it likely won't be much longer than 10 days before Morgan is back with the Phillies.

• Right-hander Victor Arano (strained right rotator cuff) threw a "really good" 26-pitch bullpen session Friday.

• Right-hander Pat Neshek (strained right forearm) will likely not begin throwing for another week.
