Phillies Minor League review: Aug. 8-15

Players of the Week
Player OF Jose Pujols, Lakewood… Pujols, 20, batted .357 (10-28) with four doubles, two home runs, three RBI, four walks, four runs and a 1.152 OPS in seven games. He has hit safely in 11 of his last 13 games overall, recording multiple hits in six of them and raising his season average by 19 points. Pujols leads the South Atlantic League with 22 home runs, ranks second in RBI (74), third in total bases (194) and is tied for fourth in extra-base hits (44). The Dominican Republic native was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on July 2, 2012.
Pitcher - RHP , Lehigh Valley… The 27-year-old Klein made two starts for Lehigh Valley, combining to go 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA (1 ER, 13.0 IP), 0.62 WHIP (2 BB, 6 H), 21 strikeouts and a .136 opponents' batting average. He set a career high with 10 strikeouts in just 5.0 innings on August 9, only to set a new career high one start later when he recorded 11 strikeouts over 8.0 shutout innings. He has a 1.64 ERA (7 ER, 38.1 IP) with 46 strikeouts in Lehigh Valley this season. Klein, who was also named International League Pitcher of the Week, was selected off waivers by the Phillies from Texas on June 19, 2016.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division…72-49, 2nd place… The IronPigs lost the first two games of each of their series last week, and won each of the two series finales. Despite the 2-4 week, Lehigh Valley holds a 5.5-game lead in the wild card standings.
Top hitting performers - OF Cam Perkins batted .316 (6-19) with a home run, four RBI and two walks in six games… 1B Brock Stassi was 4-for-11 (.364) with a home run, RBI and two walks.
Top pitching performers - RHP Phil Klein went 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA (1 ER, 13.0 IP), 0.62 WHIP (2 BB, 6 H) and 21 strikeouts in his two starts, earning him both Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week and International League Pitcher of the Week… RHP pitched in two games in relief, combining to toss 3.0 scoreless innings with just one hit allowed and five strikeouts… RHP made his triple-A debut on August 13, holding Indianapolis to one run on three hits over 5.0 innings of work.
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division …78-41, 1st place… Reading won the first and last games of their week, but dropped the middle three to finish 2-3. The Fightins will play three games at home this week against Richmond before embarking on a seven-game road trip.
Top hitting performers - OF Dylan Cozens batted .333 (6-18) with two doubles, a home run, two RBI, two walks and a stolen base. He now has 70 extra-base hits this season… OF Andrew Pullin doubled, drove in four runs and walked once while batting .316 (6-19) for the week.
Top pitching performers - RHP set a career high with 11 strikeouts on August 9. He lasted 6.0 innings in that start, allowing one run on six hits… RHP made two relief appearances, striking out eight in 4.0 frames.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division…30-19, 2ndplace, 69-48 overall… The Threshers won three of their seven games, splitting two against Tampa and four against Lakeland before losing the opener of a home-home series with Dunedin. 
Top hitting performers -  C Chace Numata extended his hitting streak to 10 games, batting .458 (11-24) with three doubles, three RBI, three walks, three runs scored and three multi-hit games… CF Carlos Tocci collected 11 hits in 27 at-bats (.407), doubled twice, walked, stole a base and scored four times… OF Aaron Brown recorded three multi-hit games, batting .346 (9-26) with a home run, three RBI and a pair of walks.
Top pitching performers -  LHP Brandon Leibrandt did not allow a run and surrendered just three hits to Lakeland in his 6.0-inning start last week… LHP Elniery Garcia tossed 6.0 shutout innings, scattering five hits and walking none. His ERA for the season is now at 2.55… RHP Matt Hockenberry threw 4.0 scoreless innings in relief over three games, picking up two saves in two opportunities and allowing only one hit.
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League Northern Division…27-22, 3rd place, 56-62 overall… Lakewood opened the week with a sweep of Delmarva, allowing just one run in the final two games of the series combined. They finished the week 4-3 and are only a half-game out of the top spot in the division.
Top hitting performers - OF Jose Pujols was named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week after batting .357 (10-28) with four doubles, two home runs, three RBI, four walks and a 1.152 OPS… OF Cornelius Randolph batted .345 (10-29), hit three doubles and a home run, drove in four runs and walked twice in seven games… CF Carlos Duran was 7-for-20 (.350) with two doubles, two walks and two stolen bases.
Top pitching performers - RHP Franklyn Kilome struck out a career-high 11 batters in 6.0 innings on August 9, allowing just one run while walking none. Kilome has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last 16 starts… RHP Seranthony Dominguez made two starts, combining to allow one run on four hits in 9.0 innings with nine strikeouts… RHP struck out nine batters and surrendered one run on three hits while walking none in his 6.0 innings of work. Tirado has a 2.89 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 37.1 innings since transitioning to a starter… RHP Grant Dyer struck out 10 batters in 5.0 innings over two scoreless relief appearances. He surrendered only one hit and picked up a save.
Williamsport Crosscutters - New York-Penn League Pinckney Division…30-25, 2nd place… Williamsport went 2-4 in a week that had two games postponed and another suspended due to rain. The Crosscutters will not play again until Wednesday due to the New York-Penn League All-Star Break.
Top hitting performers - OF Enmanuel Garcia played in three games and hit two home runs, drove in three runs and scored three more while batting .364 (4-11)… INF Chandler Hall hit three doubles, drove in a run, walked twice and scored twice… 2B Luis Espiritu Jr. batted .308 (4-13) with an RBI in four games.
Top pitching performers -  RHP Felix Paulino posted a 0.69 ERA (1 ER, 13.0 IP) over two starts, walking one and striking out 11… LHP Cole Irvin surrendered two runs and struck out seven batters in 5.0 innings of work during his only start of the week. Irvin has a 1.82 ERA in seven games (four starts).
GCL Phillies - Gulf Coast League, Northwest Division…31-12, 2nd place… The Phillies won five of their six games, including each of their last three as their winning percentage has soared to .721 for the season. They hold a 10-2 record so far in the month of August.
Top hitting performers - 1B/3B Danny Zardon batted .294 (5-17) with a double, two RBI, three walks and three runs scored… OF Jhailyn Ortiz homered, drove in four runs, walked twice, scored four runs and had two multi-hit games. He is second in the GCL with seven home runs… INF Raul Rivas was 5-for-13 (.385) in four games played.
Top pitching performers RHP Sixto Sanchez extended his scoreless streak to 29.0 innings on August 12 after throwing 5.0 shutout innings with five strikeouts and three hits allowed. In his last six starts, Sanchez is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA (30.0 IP), 0.70 WHIP (4 BB, 17 H) and 19 strikeouts. His 0.42 ERA this season is the lowest of any qualifying starting pitcher in professional baseball… RHP Luis Carrasco lowered his season ERA to 1.91 after tossing 5.0 hitless, scoreless innings in his lone start of the week… RHP Mauricio Llovera surrendered only one hit in 5.0 shutout innings during his one start. He struck out six and walked none… LHP Will Stewart struck out six batters and allowed a run on just four hits over 5.0 innings on August 10.
