Pipeline preview: Fowler carries hot bat into matchup

July 27th, 2016

Here's a look at top prospects to watch Thursday in Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Dustin Fowler (Yankees' No. 10) Trenton vs. Altoona (7 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Fowler has been on an absolute tear lately, and that excellence continued with a 2-for-5, three-RBI performance on Wednesday. The Yankees prospect hit his fifth homer of the year and extended his hitting streak to nine games as well. Not only is Fowler collecting plenty of hits and getting on base, he's also driving in runs. The 21-year-old has at least one RBI in seven consecutive games and a total of 12 in that span.

Pitcher to watch: Brent Honeywell (Rays' No. 3) Montgomery vs. Pensacola (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
The No. 51 overall prospect has been lights out since he was promoted to Double-A earlier this month. Honeywell has made three starts with the Biscuits and given up just three runs in 17 1/3 innings. The right-hander did walk a season-high three batters in his last start, but he also threw six scoreless innings.

Duel of the Day: Spencer Adams (White Sox No. 3) vs. (Braves' No. 23) Birmingham vs. Mississippi (8 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
After pitching decently in his Double-A debut, Adams will get another shot to impress on Thursday. The 20-year-old right-hander gave up three earned runs in six innings in his last start and struck out just one. Prior to his promotion, Adams made 18 starts at the Class A Advanced level and posted a 4.01 ERA through 107 2/3 innings.

After some struggles in Triple-A, Banuelos was sent to Mississippi on July 14 and has made a pair of starts with the Double-A Braves. The lefty has allowed five earned runs in 9 1/3 innings over those two starts, but he did tie his season high for strikeouts (six) in his last outing.
