Pipeline preview: No. 1 overall pick Moniak to make pro debut

June 28th, 2016

Here's a look at top prospects to watch Wednesday in Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Mickey Moniak, GCL Phillies vs. GCL Yankees East (noon ET)
Moniak, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 Draft, is slated to make his highly-anticipated professional debut. The 18-year-old outfielder agreed to terms with the Phillies on June 20 and is coming off a very impressive high school season.
The Phillies' 2015 first-round pick (No. 10 overall), Cornelius Randolph, is also expected to take the field for the GCL Phillies after missing the past two months with a left shoulder strain. The Phillies' past top two picks will be joining a lineup that also includes the team's top international signing from last year, Jhailyn Ortiz. Randolph is No. 5 on Philadelphia's Top 30 Prospects list, while Ortiz is No. 25.

Pitcher to watch:Mike Clevinger (Indians' No. 7), Columbus vs. Lehigh Valley (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
When Clevinger takes the mound, Columbus is usually in pretty good shape. The right-hander struggled a bit in his stint with the Indians, but at the Triple-A level, he's 7-0 with a 2.81 ERA.
Prior to giving up four earned runs in his last start, Clevinger had a scoreless streak of 20 2/3 innings. The eight hits Clevinger gave up were the most he surrendered all season.
Duel of the Day:Rob Kaminsky (Indians' No. 9) vs. Tyler Beede (Giants' No. 2), Akron at Richmond (6:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
A couple of rough starts have inflated Kaminsky's numbers a bit, but the left-hander has been more than capable in his first stint at the Double-A level. After posting a 2.24 ERA in 104 1/3 innings last year, Kaminsky has a 4.66 ERA through 56 innings this season. He has lowered his ERA in each of his past two starts (11 innings and a total of three earned runs) and will look to do so again against Richmond.

Getting another June start is good news for Beede. The 23-year-old is 2-1 with a 1.95 ERA in four June starts. While Beede has been exceptional in June, he's been good all year. The right-hander has a 2.97 ERA and has gone at least six innings in seven consecutive starts.
