CHICAGO -- Third baseman flew with the Pirates from Milwaukee to Chicago, but he won't be working out at Wrigley Field this week.
Kang traveled Monday to Indianapolis, where he will continue his rehab workouts with the Pirates' Triple-A club. Kang is on the 15-day disabled list with an injured left shoulder, and he is not eligible to return until Sunday at the earliest.
Kang has been cleared to take batting practice and field ground balls, manager Clint Hurdle said. But as Kang increases his workload of on-field activities, Hurdle said Wrigley Field's facilities are "a tough place to ramp up anything."
Instead, Hurdle said, Kang can work out "in a much more conducive environment to his rehab than we would have here." Typically, injured players remain with the big league team, taking part in pregame drills with the rest of the club or on their own, until they begin an official rehab assignment in the Minors.
Kang has been sidelined since Aug. 19. The second-year infielder was hitting .243/.326/.481 with 14 homers and 41 RBIs in 77 games this season. has been the Pirates' primary third baseman since Kang went down.
Around the horn
• Top prospect was activated off the 15-day disabled list and optioned to Indianapolis on Sunday night. Glasnow will make at least one start in Triple-A, Hurdle said, before rejoining the Pirates.
Glasnow made his second big league start on July 23 and exited early with right shoulder discomfort that later sent him to the disabled list. Glasnow made three three-inning rehab starts.
"Needs to work on the efficiency and get on a routine that's solid, now that he's healthy," Hurdle said. "We'll see where that goes."
• Right-hander , the Pirates' No. 11 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com, started for Double-A Altoona on Monday night, his first outing above Class A since May 6, 2015. Kingham had Tommy John surgery last May and made his way back to the mound this season.
Kingham allowed one run on three hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings. Rehabbing Pirates catcher (sore left knee) was behind the plate Kingham's start. Stewart is expected to rejoin the Pirates this weekend, after active rosters expand from 25 to 40 players.
• Altoona outfielder Barrett Barnes was named the Eastern League Player of the Week, his second selection this month. Barnes hit .409 (9-for-22) with three home runs, two doubles and seven RBIs last week.
Barnes, the 45th overall pick in the 2012 Draft and the Pirates' No. 29 prospect, is hitting .311/.378/.478 in 116 games for Altoona.
