SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Morning rains at Salt River Fields impacted the D-backs' training schedule for the second consecutive day, but Sunday's workout was not a wash.
"It wasn't exactly what we hoped for, but our coaches did a great job of rearranging the day today. We got exactly the type of work in that we wanted to get in," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. "I thought our pitchers got in and threw the ball extremely well in their first live look. All in all, the day was a success and something we could build off of."
Thirteen pitchers, including , , , and Yuhei Nakaushiro, threw batting practice in the cages. Hitters stood in the batter's box but did not swing. The players also participated in individual defensive drills under the cages but could not work on team defense drills because of the rain.

The players wrapped up the morning workout unscathed, except for catcher Chris Herrmann, who was hit by a pitch.
"The way I was looking at it is that not every outing, not every start and not every appearance is going to be perfect for anybody," Lovullo said. "As much as we can practice in these types of conditions, it will prepare us for April. We know there are some challenging moments in April, weather-wise, and this was a great moment for us to go out there and learn and feel the moment."
The forecast for Monday is mostly sunny with a small chance of rain in the morning. The D-backs are hoping for the best weather while also preparing for the worst.
"You know what? Whatever comes your way, you just roll with it," D-backs center fielder A.J. Pollock said. "The coaches and guys that set the schedule up did a good job of making sure that it was not a circus and it was organized. I think they did a good job."
