NEW YORK -- Monday's series opener between the Mets and Cardinals was postponed due to rain. The teams will play a single-admission doubleheader today beginning at 4:10 p.m. ET, with the second game beginning approximately a half hour after the first.
Fans holding tickets for Monday's game cannot use them for today's doubleheader, unless they exchange them in person at the Citi Field ticket windows. Fans may also exchange them for tickets to any other regular-season home game, pending availability, and excepting July 30 against the Rockies and Aug. 1-2 against the Yankees.
Only tickets for today's originally scheduled 7:10 p.m. game will be valid for admission to the doubleheader.

Heavy thunderstorms began washing over Citi Field beginning around 4:30 p.m., accompanied by thunderclaps and dark gray skies. The tarp came out at that time, remaining there for the rest of the evening. The Mets officially postponed the game several minutes before its originally scheduled 7:10 p.m. first pitch.

The rain delay was the latest in a series of difficult events for the Cardinals, who played a Sunday night game in St. Louis, experienced a flight delay and did not arrive in New York until the early morning Monday. They spent the day resting, delaying their arrival at Citi Field until approximately 4:45 p.m.
Noah Syndergaard, who was scheduled to start Monday for the Mets, will now pitch Game 1 of the doubleheader on two extra days of rest, with Bartolo Colon starting the nightcap. Carlos Martínez and Jaime García will start Games 1 and 2, respectively, for the Cardinals.
The rain also complicates things for the Mets, who now must use a spot starter Saturday against the Rockies. That could be as simple as asking reliever Seth Lugo to pitch, though the Mets could also call on No. 13 prospect Gabriel Ynoa to make his big league debut. Another candidate, Sean Gilmartin, recently landed on the disabled list.
