ARLINGTON -- The Texas Rangers today announced that the team has entered into a two-year extension of their Player Development Contract (PDC) with their Double-A affiliate, the Frisco RoughRiders of the Texas League. This will continue the longtime affiliation between the two clubs through the 2020 season.

The announcement of the extension was made in conjunction with Frisco's 2018 season opener this evening against Tulsa at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The partnership began with the Riders' inaugural season in Frisco in 2003 and matches the Northwest League Spokane Indians for the Rangers' longest current minor league affiliation.

The two-year extension until September 2020 is the longest currently permitted by the Professional Baseball Agreement (PBA), which governs the relationship between Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball.

"The Rangers are pleased to extend our affiliation with the Frisco RoughRiders and continue a partnership that we believe is as strong as any that exists between a major league parent club and a minor league affiliate," Rangers Assistant General Manager Jayce Tingler said. "The entire RoughRiders' ownership and front office staff go out of their way to provide our players with a big league environment at the Double-A level."
