Seven-run 8th rallies Rangers past White Sox

May 10th, 2016

ARLINGTON -- Ryan Rua finished off a stunning seven-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning with a three-run home run that lifted the Rangers to a 13-11 victory over the White Sox on Tuesday night in a game that was delayed by rain for one hour and 18 minutes prior to the third inning.
The Rangers trailed, 11-6, going into the inning before they struck back against three relievers for their first victory in five tries against the White Sox this season. Ian Desmond also had a big blow with a two-run triple in the inning.
"Incredible victory all-around," Rua said. "How the day turned out ... the long delay, different people stepping up. It was a lot of fun."

Alex Claudio ended up as the winning pitcher with a career-high 4 1/3 innings of relief after both Derek Holland and Anthony Ranaudo struggled early. The game was delayed with the Rangers holding a 2-1 lead.
White Sox relievers were 5-0 with a 1.98 ERA on the season before Scott Carroll, Zach Duke and Matt Albers were knocked around in the eighth. Albers have up the three-run homer to Rua, who went deep for only the second time this season to knock starter Carlos Rodon from the win column.
"It's a tough night, we had a good lead, I thought Carlos, with the stop and start, he kind of fought through it," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "We got some runs, gave them up, got them back, we kept inching along and they just had a big inning. This is a ballpark that you've got to be careful, they can hit it out of the ballpark. Just not our night."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Worth the wait:
With a fierce thunderstorm full of heavy wind and rain approaching Arlington just as the third inning was set to begin, the grounds crew at Globe Life Park hurried to get the tarp on the field and the game was delayed as the inclement weather rolled through. When the rain ended, the White Sox deluge began -- they scored four runs in the third off Holland, who resumed his start despite the delay. Adam Eaton and Jimmy Rollins strung together one-out singles, Jose Abreu drew a 10-pitch walk, Frazier singled home two runs and then Melky Cabrera and Brett Lawrie collected back-to-back doubles to chase Holland.

Ranaudo loses control: After Bryan Holaday hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third to tie the game, Ranaudo let it get away in the top of the fourth. He walked five of seven batters to force in two runs. Claudio took over and gave up a three-run double to Avisail Garcia to make it 10-5.

Rollins keeps running: Batting in the No. 2 spot, White Sox shortstop Rollins reached base four times and scored each time, in the first, third, fourth and eighth innings. Rollins singled his first two times up, walked in the Sox five-run fourth, and tripled in the eighth, scoring an insurance run on Abreu's sacrifice fly.
Baserunning mistake saves Holland early: The White Sox scored one off Holland in the first, but a baserunning mistake prevented a bigger inning. Eaton led off with a single and Rollins dropped a base hit into left-center field. Eaton rounded second too far and slipped. Left fielder Desmond threw to second and caught Eaton in a rundown. Rollins made it to second on the play, later scoring an unearned run following a wild pickoff throw by Holland that moved him to third before Todd Frazier's RBI groundout.
