ARLIGNTON -- Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos was activated from the 60-day disabled list before Thursday's game against the Astros after missing the past 53 games with a fractured right forearm.
To make room on the roster, right-hander Luke Jackson was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
Chirinos went on the DL on April 10 after taking a fastball to the forearm from Angels right-hander Garrett Richards the day before. He was 2-for-21 through a six-game rehab assignment between Double-A Frisco and Round Rock. Before going on the DL, Chirinos was batting .267 with a homer and two RBIs in five games.
Bobby Wilson, Bryan Holaday and Brett Nicholas have all played catcher in Chirinos' absence. Going into Thursday's game, Rangers catchers had the highest OPS of any group in the American League (.796).
Jackson was recalled from Round Rock on May 16. The 24-year-old right-hander has a 7.04 ERA through five appearances this season. He's the Rangers' No. 16 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Chirinos, the Rangers designated right-hander Phil Klein, who had been with Round Rock, for assignment.
