Mild wrist sprain puts Dyson on sidelines

February 28th, 2017

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Rangers pitcher Sam Dyson has been scratched from Tuesday's outing against the D-backs because of a sprained right wrist.
The Rangers do not think the injury is serious, and at this point, it does not look like it will impact his participation in the World Baseball Classic.
"I don't think it is a high level of concern," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. "I have been told by our medical people that it is fairly mild. But anytime somebody can't go on the field and go through their normal work day, you have to be careful. But I don't think this is a concern."

Dyson fell on the wrist last week during pitcher's fielding practice. He pitched a scoreless inning on Saturday against the Royals, and then he started feeling the wrist on Sunday.
"It has been gradually getting better," Banister said. "You just don't want him to alter anything mechanically."
Worth noting
• Outfielder Josh Hamilton was meeting with Dr. Walt Lowe in Houston on Tuesday to determine his rehabilitation plan. Hamilton underwent surgery on Monday to clean up some fraying in his left knee, and he will be sidelined two to three months. Lowe said the knee was sound, other than some fraying in the cartilage.
• Pitcher was being checked out by a urologist on Tuesday after getting hit by a line drive in a sensitive area while pitching against the Indians on Tuesday. The Rangers believe Valdespina will be all right, but they wanted him examined because he was not wearing the appropriate protective equipment when he got hit.
• Third baseman took a personal day off and was not at camp on Tuesday.
