ARLINGTON -- Andrew Cashner carried a no-hitter for 5 2/3 innings and the Rangers snapped the Red Sox's six-game winning streak with an 8-2 victory on Wednesday night at Globe Life Park. The start of the game was delayed for an hour, 26 minutes by rain.
The Red Sox had also won six in a row against the Rangers going back to last year before falling in the final meeting between the two teams this season. The Sox still lead the Yankees by four games in the American League East. The Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak with only their second win in their last eight games.
"Big-time performance by Cashner," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. "He went out there and put his foot down. His sinker was dynamic and they stuck with it. Great focus. When we get a performance like that, it sets up everything for our offense."
The Rangers jumped on Red Sox starter Doug Fister for six runs (four earned) over 3 2/3 innings in his third start since being claimed off waivers from the Angels on June 23. Rougned Odor and Carlos Gomez both went deep off Fister, who is now 0-2 with a 6.14 ERA. Fister is in Boston's rotation mainly because Eduardo Rodriguez is on the disabled list with a right knee injury, but Rodriguez is expected back right after the All-Star break.

• With sinker in sync, Cashner stymies Sox
Cashner earned his first victory since June 9 by holding the Red Sox to two runs on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts. He did not give up a run until two outs in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by 2017 Xander Bogaerts. The two runs were unearned because a dropped throw by first baseman Pete Kozma, who entered the game in the fifth due to Joey Gallo's sore hamstring, with two outs prolonged the inning.
"We kind of dug ourselves a hole a little bit early, and on a night where Cashner's throwing the ball as well as he did, that was one we couldn't hit our way out of," Red Sox manager John Farrell said.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Odor jumps on Fister again: Odor gave the Rangers a lead in the second inning with a two-run home run off Fister. It was Odor's third home run in 17 career at-bats off Fister. Four of Odor's last seven hits have been home runs.

"I really didn't hit it good," Odor said. "He kind of jammed me."
Erratic pitching cost Sox: Fister walked Odor and Mike Napoli to start the fourth and then bobbled Jurickson Profar's sacrifice bunt for an error to load the bases. All three runners ended up scoring on sacrifice flies by Jonathan Lucroy and Shin-Soo Choo and a single by Gomez. Red Sox reliever Robby Scott started the fifth by hitting Adrian Beltre and Odor with pitches. They both scored on Profar's two-run double.

"It's a real tough pill to swallow tonight," Fister said. "At the cost of, obviously, a team loss, but especially if the guys in the bullpen have to pick me up and carry us through the game. That's a tough thing for me to swallow. Leaving it in someone else's hands, it's not that I don't have confidence in them. I know that they're taxed, and I'm adding to that. That's a frustrating thing for me, I'm not getting my job done, and I need to obviously be better."

Gallo had a fourth-inning single for the Rangers. It was his first single since June 4. His last 10 hits had all been for extra bases until that one.

Rangers: Left-hander Cole Hamels pitches against the Angels in the first of a three-game series at 7:05 p.m. CT on Friday at Globe Life Park. Hamels is 2-0 with a 2.73 ERA in his last five starts vs. the Halos.
